Well, it all really started when I was in ninth
grade. That’s when I figured out what I wanted to be. You see before then, I
changed my mind so many times. First, I wanted to be a lawyer. Then I thought no
way, that’s way too boring for me. So, then I had my mind set on being a
teacher. That had been my dream for the longest. I love to be around kids. I
love helping them. I love playing with them. So I figured this would be the
perfect job. But as the year kept going I slowly started to change my mind. I
decided I wanted to become a pediatrician.
A pediatrician is a doctor that specializes in
children. They also focus on the children’s diseases. This dream of mine first
started when I began to date one of my childhood friends. He was always sick
when we were a little younger but, I didn't really understand what was wrong
with him at the time. Once we starting dating, he told me the reason for him
always being sick. It was because he had Sickle Cell Anemia. Sickle Cell Anemia
is basically a hereditary form of anemia that makes the red blood cells turns
into a crescent shape because of low oxygen levels. It occurs mostly in blacks.
He was in and out of the hospital so much. I hated seeing him in pain. He
eventually got behind in school and it got so bad at one point that he had to
stop playing basketball.
Basically, he inspired me. Seeing him like that made
me realize how much I wanted to help children not go through so much pain. I
know I will be great. My goal will be to put a smile on every single one of my
patients face. I plan to do that by always listening to them. I will give them
advice if and when they need it. Try to tell them jokes. Really, I would do
just about anything to make them feel better and have a better day. Another one
of my goals is to make them walk out of the hospital feeling better than they
did walking in.
