And giving them big smiles
We love helping kids
And making their parents proud
We love helping kids
Getting rid of tommy aches
We love helping kids
Taking all of their pain away
We love helping kids
Because being a pediatrician
Is the best thing you can be
And we love helping kids you see,

Don't Take Them Away!

picture came from photobucket.com

I think everyone one will agree with me when I say, the U.S. suffers with obsese children I've read this article about removing obese children from there home. I'm of two minds about Dr. Ludwig and Lindsey Murtagh's claim on obesity. On one hand, I agree that obesity is a problem within children of this generation. On the other hand, I'm not sure if removing them from their home will fix the problem.

Both, Ludwig and Murtagh argues that placing the obese child into a temporary foster care will solve the issuse. By focusing on the "home" of the child, they both overlook the deeper problem of the obesity. Removing a child from their parents can make the situation worse. If the child already has poor eating habbits, what do you think will happen if they're taken away from their parents. They will continue to eat their problems away.

Dr. Ludwig and Murtagh are right when they say obesity is a health risk to many kids, but in my opinion they would be hurting the child even more if they remove them from their home and place them some where else. I believe there are other ways to approach this issue. One way is to have both the parent and the child to attend counseling. This will help understand why the child has such poor eating habits and maybe help solve the problem. Another approach is to get the parent to do more active activities with the child. This will be better than the child doing exercises on their own. My last solution would be to change the child's diet. Have the parents to substitute sweets for something a bit more healthier.
