The Development of a Baby

Babies, don’t you just love them. Have you ever thought about the different stages a baby goes through while in the womb? I have always wondered what will be the first thing a baby develops. Heres what I came up with:

Weeks 3-6
During the first few weeks the baby will start to develop major organs. The brain one of the organs and the heart is another. The heart will begin to start pumping around the fifth week.  The baby will also have a stomach during this time. The ears and eyes are just starting to come in. And the spinal cord is beginning to form. During the sixth week, the baby's upper lip is starting to form.

Weeks 7-12
These weeks are all about GROWTH! The umbilical cord will be the first thing starting to form around this time. This helps nourish and strengthen the baby through the entire pregnancy. The arms and legs will become more visible during this time as well. The toes and fingers start to develop. During week nine the baby will be just an inch! And that’s when he/she will be able to move around.  Also during week nine he/she will get its reproductive organs. Week ten is when the skeleton starts to develop. By week eleven, you will be able to tell its gender. And when week twelve approaches the baby will have already grown three inches.

Weeks 13-16
This is the beginning of the second trimester. This is when the baby starts to kick. The baby will also start developing skin, though it will be very thin. I also read that the baby will start making different faces during the sixteenth week. The baby will be able to form a cute little fist and has grown five inches.

Weeks 17-20
The baby will continue to grow. One cool thing I found out was that during this time the baby will be able to hear you and things around you. Its kidneys are developed. Some babies have hair around this time, but some don’t. The arms and legs are fully developed.

Week 21-27
These are the last weeks of the second trimester. The baby is able to taste and feel now. Around this time, he/she does a lot of moving when they’re awake. Blood cells are being created. The baby’s lungs are growing. The baby also begins breathing.

Weeks 28-36
This is the third trimester. The brain is still developing during this time, but its happening much faster. The baby is able to grab and hold things. Its preparing itself for birth. Also the baby is able to suck.

Weeks 37-40
This is the time every pregnant woman has been waiting for. The baby is fully developed. The baby may be at least six to eight pounds. Sometimes they are larger than that.

See, the baby goes through many changes. And just think, this process is something that every single one of us has gone through. I think this is the most amazing and beautiful process of development known to man.
