The Risks of Summer!

Everyone loves the summer time right? Its filled with fun! There is no school (for most people), beach fun, and a lot of traveling. How could you not enjoy it? Well, it is a down side to it. You are putting yourself in harm!

1.)Did you know skincancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S.? During the summer it’s normally hot, so we tend to wear less clothing. It is very important to protect your skin while you’re out in the sun. One way to do so is putting on sunscreen. There are also some that are waterproof. You can also walk around with an umbrella. The umbrella can be used to block the sun. You can also wear hats, cover-ups, and etc.

2.)Be sure to keep yourself hydrated. This is something young people really don’t pay attention to. When you’re hot, your body cools itself down by producing sweat. In order to produce sweat you will need to be hydrated. Water is the best thing to drink. Keep some fluids with you at all times.

3.) Try to take it easy in the heat. You can’t exercise in the heat as you normally would. If you don’t take the right precautions, you could end up with a heat related illness. Take little breaks while active. This will give your body time to cool down. Find a shade spot to rest. And again, you MUST stay hydrated.

4.) Keep your eyes safe!! When going out in the sun, you can also damage your eyes. I’ve read that if you go out into the bright sunlight you are putting yourself at a greater risk in developing cataracts and growths on the eye. To prevent any of these things wear sunglasses that will protect against the UV light. Wear a hat that will also block the sun. And remember to NEVER look directly at the sun.
